i got in the car this morning after my spin class and turned on espn radio–to colin cowherd, of course–where he was talking about marriage. talk of marriage on sports radio…what in the world do the two have in common?
even after listening to his rant, i am still unsure of the connection. well, he did reference football….

interesting viewpoint, i would have to say…a bit of a difference from my rather conservative viewpoint.
i think it was a conversation about elliott spitzer that somehow evolved into this.
everything in life is evolving. maybe marriage should evolve as well. it is the only modern-day institution that has yet to evolve. and i think it should…at least for guys.
we should treat marriage like the nfl combine…
scouting,
recruiting,
drafts,
sign-in bonus,
contract clause
…and at the end, both are unrestricted free agents.
marriage is the one institution that hasn’t changed. why hasn’t it changed?
got to admit that much of life has evolved, especially in the last 50-60 years.
got to admit that much of life has evolved, for better or for worse (but hopefully more for the better).
got to admit that much of life will evolve, whether we like it or not.
got to admit that much of life will evolve with little or much effort from ourselves.
i am more optimistic than colin, not seeing the benefit from it resembling the nfl combine. not sure about the evolution of marriage–where it should go, what it should look like, or what is yet to come…yet i remain hopeful.

i heard an advertisement for jc penny this morning on the radio that i thought was great direct marketing. now granted, i was listening to espn radio and a show that targets twenty and thirty-year old men, but this ad was totally geared for men shoppers–the typical male shopper, that is.
jc penny makes it easy to get in, find it, and get out.
but really, is that their goal?
is jc penny truly thinking of the typical male shopper in their marketing?
i haven’t been so affected by the time change until this morning…and it wasn’t the sleep factor.
i am used to leaving my apartment to teach my spin class by 5:30am in the dark, yet seeing the sunrise on the way.
but today, i saw the sunrise following my class.

definitely affected by the change in time, change in view, and the change in viewpoint it afforded.
i have some friends who go to taco tuesday,
an event on tuesday (no kidding) where they go for tacos (no brainer).
they drive from pasadena to a little mexican restaurant on glendale ave in los angeles…all for 49cent tacos.

most tuesdays i work the closing shift but yesterday i had off…so, of course, i went to taco tuesday.
it wasn’t as crowded as i would have thought for a place that serves 49cent tacos.
i enjoyed the blaring music emanating from the compact disc juke box…never seen one but here at taco mexico they have one.

fun times with jena, antonia, and karli at taco tuesday.

i have spent my last days off doing my most favorite things.

in the last week, i have been to the beach 3 times–let me repeat myself, 3 times.
margit and i call it our little adventure.
each time we have ventured to santa monica after she drops the girls off at school.
and each time it has looked quite similar, yet quite different.
a long run/walk…on the boardwalk, through pacific palisades, or up/down stairs that pass over PCH.

checking out the real estate along the way–the $12 million homes, the trailer parks, that which you could only see in southern california, the beach resorts, and raw nature.

sitting in our beach chairs relaxing to the sound of the ocean–reading a magazine, eating our packed lunch, or watching the lifeguard paddle in the ocean atop his surfboard.

on to our final adventure–lunch at tito’s, cupcakes from vanilla bakeshop, or sandwiches from wild oats.

definitely a new weekly tradition–one full of adventure, one full of fun times, one full of conversation, one full of relaxation, one full of sunshine, one full of memories.
that’s how i like to spend days off.
now that i have my interim driver’s license, i put on my california license plates.
didn’t want to put the plates on without the license because i heard that i could get a ticket with the plates on my car and without the license to accompany it. but not anymore…

i guess it’s official.
i’m officially californian…at least according to documentation.
